one of the few books that make sense on this topic
Making links between certain foods and emotions has been very helpful. Making links between certain foods and certain people (e.g. scrambled eggs like Granny used to make can make one feel cared-for) I took from another book I read simultaneously with this one, and the two books just sort of clicked together. Let me repeat: that's extremely helpful. This way you can pinpoint your cravings for things other than food. It doesn't just help you stop eating everything in sight. It also makes you think about putting up your Granny's picture on a wall or something, actually making yourself feel better about bigger things in life. The author does mention other materials quite a lot, but this book is complete without them. You just make some lists, do some journaling, and everything works fine without any special-made spreadsheets or soundtracks.I should also mention that I got this book for free during some promotion, and I'm glad I did. It was worth the time spent reading it. I actually kept it open on my Kindle for a while after I finished reading it because I didn't want to just forget it, like I've done with most other self-help books.

Great resource book for emotional eaters
This is a great helpful book. It breaks it down into steps of a 4 week program. I felt this helped to not overwhelm you and make you understand why you are an emotional eater. Also there is positive reinforcement throughout the book. Ms. McCreery makes sure that you don't give up on yourself and you don't talk down about yourself. Also there are many helpful hints to get over a slump or to help you commit to changes. She lets you know that there will be times of setback but how to get back on track. If you mindlessly eat or are an emotional eater this book will help you realize your triggers and change your eating habits.

I have finally found the help I needed. I am so, so thankful.
In this book, Dr. Melissa McCreery has given me the guidance and help I have needed for so, so long. Unlike my past methods and beliefs, this book is not about "not eating" and "depriving myself" or "controlling myself". It is just the opposite! It is about giving myself all the nourishment I truly need, in all areas of life. I am learning how to "feed" my needs appropriately, without going to food, and I love it. I feel so much more nourished in all areas, and I am so happy. We don't have to feed our emotions and feelings with food - Dr. McCreery leads us step by step in learning how to stop, identify our emotions and feelings, and nourish ourselves appropriately, and it is so much more satisfying than the food. If you think you overeat or eat emotionally, I encourage you to get the hard copy of this book. Underline like crazy, use post it book marks, make notes all over the place. It will be your lifeline, and you will turn to it again and again, and you will learn to be happy and nourished, without the extra food.(I've had the book two weeks and have lost 15 pounds - easily - without feeling deprived in the slightest, without effort - because I'm taking care of myself in the right ways, and feeling so satisfied and comforted and nourished in all areas.)

Really Good Insights Into Emotional Eating and What to Do Instead!
This book covers the real reasons that we eat emotionally and what we can do to meet our real needs in a more effective and healthy way. When you see what is behind the extreme feeling of hunger you are experiencing and you see what to do instead, you will find the answer to peace with food and with your self. This is an excellent and very helpful book and the insights will give you the tools needed to overcome in this most difficult and misunderstood area of our lives. We have thought that our struggle has been with food, when in fact it is the unmet needs we have that cause the hunger. Realizing what is really going on and seeing what we can do differently is what makes this book the valuable tool that the author, Melissa McCreery, intended to give us when she wrote it!!

Not worth downloading
The author goes on and on about being successful at a young age with her eating issues. There is never any real path to follow unless you pay to download more of her information.

Wonderful
Excellent book on how to take better care of yourself and be curious about why you overeat, I also took a couple of her online courses and I highly recommend both the book and the courses, these were phenomenal in helping me set solid habits in taking care of myself.

I am able to make peace with food...finally...a must read!
As someone who has struggled with losing the last 10-15 pounds of weight for years, this book addresses why I haven't been able to succeed. I can honestly tell you, I have made peace with food and my body. I am a great deal closer to reaching my ideal body weight than I have ever been because of how Melissa McCreery, Ph.D. approaches the subject. It was frustrating why I could succeed in so many other areas of my life and not the one of making peace with food. This book is a must read and one that I refer back to when I start back into old habits. It is a journey and this book is one that I am glad to have with me!

Add this to your toolkit
Concrete advice, thought-provoking prompts, and a surprisingly deep dive into causes and solutions for emotional eating while still being a quick read. I purchased this book and have taken an online course from Dr. McCreery and have found her style to be more therapeutic than a significant portion of the face to face therapy I have done around disordered eating. This book is a great investment for anyone looking to take immediate action to change their relationship with food.
