A Masterpiece
Ibsen’s famous play, probably the most popular nowadays shouldn’t really need much introduction as chances are that you are already aware of it if you are looking at this item. I should stress however that if you are more than just a general reader for instance a student, then this particular edition will not really be ideal for you, as there is no introduction, notes or analysis, something which you will probably need.Set over a Christmas it emerges that Nora has been keeping a very large secret from her husband Torvald. But as events start to pan out she has to tell her friend Christine, what she has done. Fearing for her husband’s health Nora managed to get a loan, but how she got it wasn’t strictly honest. With the man she got the loan from likely to lose his job he has come to Nora with intent to blackmail. As the play unfurls we see how what at the beginning looks like a normal happy marriage isn’t really so. As layers are drawn back we see that there are some problems here.Ibsen showed here how a marriage can start to fall apart and indeed this does read in some ways like a kitchen sink drama, something that really never started to come about until the 1950s. Ibsen showed his audience true life and with it glaring back at them this did cause quite some controversy throughout Europe. Starting over the issue of money and the need of it for the Helmer family to provide suitable convalescence for the man of the house, this then goes on to the effects caused by Nora managing to raise it in secrecy, and with the final denouement how this could affect the family name and honour. We read all this here and what course of action is taken by Nora at the end, and what really gets her goat about her marriage.Due to the nitty gritty realism here this was so controversial in Germany, that even to be performed the ending had to be altered, thus taking away from the full impact of the whole play. This play has been hailed as a piece of pro- feminism, and yes it can be said that it is, but Ibsen never set out to create anything pro-feminist, instead he wrote and based this on a true event. This is always a pure pleasure to read and if you are into drama then this is a must have if you have not already got a copy, or if like me, ideal to download to your kindle so you have a copy to carry around with you.

Horrific - Had to buy a different copy after. Waste of money
TERRIBLE!!!The covers look like a 5 year old put them together, but the main issue is the play's formatting. It is really unclear who is speaking, as the name is lowercase, with a full stop after it to denote who is speaking. Frequently a new line isn't started even started, but just appears in the previous speaker's dialogue, so it appears as if the previous person is merely saying their name. It is diabolical, completely unfit for study, I had to buy another, different copy for my A-Level study

Quite literally was it says on the book.
Ordered this as I needed it for my A Level English, not really too much to say about the product other then it came earlier than expected (nice surprise) and without any faults. The book was in perfect condition upon arrival, none of the text was missing/faded and like I said delivery was earlier then expected. The only small problem with the book is the durability, after being in my bag for a few months being chucked around the spine has started to rip/crease along with the front cover-however this is to be expected considering it's paperback and is being extensively used. Overall a great purchase!

Comes in good condition and a good play
This book is good for a light read. It’s about a woman going against stereotypes within the 1800’s living in a patriarchal society.

Notes included
Although in good condition, the book was sold as not having notes or highlighting- this wasn’t the case: it’s full of notes. Hopefully they’ll be useful ones!!

It isn't the best in terms of translation
It isn't the best in terms of translation. Sometimes sentences didn't make sense. It hasn't been checked over for errors either because sometimes the names of the characters were on the wrong lines. But of a mess if I'm honest

Great Read
Although written in late 19th century, the story of Nora and Torvald isn't obsolete for our times. Nora is every woman who is stuck in a hypocritical marriage, where the husband believes he is a more a care taker than a friendly and understanding companion. A marriage where she is obliged to be at her husband's service and nurturing of their children but shouldn't poke her nose, even in the most desparate condition, when it comes to financial matters. On the other hand Torvald lives through an illusion in which he confuses constant attention to his wife as never ending love. The disclosure of a concealed chapter in Nora's life and Torvald's initial reaction led Nora to discover how stranger they were to each other and how she is considered a 'doll' because she lacks individualism. What was that Nora has been hiding from Torvald and What was the aftermath of her discovery define this play. Ibsen's portrayal of Nora is a true reflection of how women were and are considered to be less important and incapable of making important decisions. When it comes to the book, the publishers have done a good job. They have a chosen a nice readable font which is sufficiently big enough to be read even from a 40cm distance. No grammatical errors or spelling mistakes to my notice. Small enough book size so that you can carry it with you wherever you go and, big enough not to be un-noticed and forgotten. When it comes to delivery, I have ordered 4 other books with this and each one of them were delivered in a good condition. The packaging was good and the delivery was on time.In the end, thanks to Henrik Ibsen for this wonderful and gripping play which is never obsolete. Thanks to Maple press pvt ltd for their nice readable font and, thanks to amazon for delivering it on time and in good condition

Apologia Feminista

Such a strong work
Ever since the start of the book, it's noticeable that Helmer treated Nora as a baby. It felt pretentious and as if a man was playing with a doll. It felt nothing more than a doll. The ending, it was essential. It treated the text right, it treated all the characters right. I had heard great things about this play and I'm glad I read it.

Excellent work!
Imagine what it would be like to live in a doll’s house: it's a house in which you are controlled and have no power to make any strong decisions; it's a house in which you are a play thing for someone else’s entertainment. This sounds a lot like a bad marriage, so it's a house in which your husband holds the purse strings, so to speak, and leaves you with no control over your family’s finances. Indeed, your husband keeps you on a very tight leash. Such is the perceived life of Nora Helma.

Beautiful play of three acts
Beautiful play of three acts... The charecter of our well known Nora, how she shows her strong apathy... How their simple romantic life strikes with the stark reality how strong irony toward a conventional society are highlighted beautifully... It has got a nice laminated paperback And jst adorable... It comes in such a low price thanks to my favourite Amazon!

Play for all ages
A play for all ages. The author explored the hard realities and fancies of a married life. Even though the author belongs to a different place and the play setting was foreign, the play echoes the issues of contemporary marriage life.

Worth the wait!
Maple Press does a great job with the glossy cover of the book. In addition to it, the binding is really neat. The font is just perfect and the spacing is on point. Totally worth every penny. You'll not be disappointed!

A Doll's House
This is a terrible translation; almost meaningless. For example, instead of translating as "my dear", it says "my price". I now understand from the bookshop in Zurich (Oreül Fusseli) that the only translation worth buying is from Bloomsbury ISBN PB: 978-1-4725-2641-0. This is an example of where Amazon undertakes no quality control over what it sells.
