Very clear sound !
I needed a headphone amp for my bass guitar but after looking at all the plug in bass headphone amps available I was disappointed. The most common issues with them were poor battery life and cheap construction leading to them falling apart. They are also filled with gimmicks which have no value to me and are generally low quality. There are a couple of pedal type amps which would be better suited but they were out of my budget at the time so decided to try this. There is no low pass filtering or tone controls and the sound is very clear so all the squeaks from the strings are clearly audible but I use Zoom Multistomp pedal as a filter to reduce that problem.I also tried it on my ES339 which sounds superb through this amp which shows it is not really suitable for bass, on a passive electric guitar it has a warm smooth mellow tone which reminds me of a Fender type amp, really nice !I cannot understand why there are 2 rubber buttons on one side though, they don't seem to have any practical purpose.Good quality solid construction, good battery life, very clear sound, no complaints really !

Good cost effective IEM solution for keyboards etc
I’ve been looking for a cheap IEM solution for playing live - I play guitar and synths, and look after the backing tracks in a loud covers band - so bought this to try out. I’m mostly stuck behind keyboards so don’t really need wireless. I run everything through a small Alto desk to provide a mix to my keyboard backline (also run a line out from guitar amp into the desk just for the IEM mix). The plan is to create a monitor mix using an Aux bus and feed the Aux out into the Electro-Harmonix headphone amp on my belt. Well so far so good. Although it seems to be designed for a low level guitar output the headphone amp seems to take the line out signal reasonably well although you have to keep the input level down a bit otherwise it distorts. I probably need to experiment with this a bit more but there’s plenty of gain on the amp so this isn’t a problem. The maximum achievable volume seems more than enough with a cheap set of in-ear earphones and the sound quality good; probably not hifi but good enough for IEM purposes. The build quality is excellent for the money although as others have said the belt clip is plastic and perhaps not so robust. Couple of things to note though: the input is mono so the stereo headphone output is the mono feed in both ears, and the input jack socket faces downwards when it’s belt worn (you’ll need to hook the lead around your belt if you’re clumsy like me). Going to try it out with the band tonight and will update review if there’s any problems.

Versatile Headphone Amp for Guitar
Great little headphone amp for guitar and bass. The amp has a good weight to it and feels robust. The main casing is made from metal and the belt clip on the rear is plastic. The unit has a 1/4 inch jack input socket for connecting your instrument too and a 3.5mm headphone jack output to connect to your headphones. There is a single control knob on the front of the device which allows you to set the volume level ( the underlying potentiometer for the volume knob feels robust ). The volume knob has a smooth rotation not the stepped/notched design. You can feed the amp directly from your guitar regardless of the pick-up type passive and active pickups both work. You can also feed the amp from the output of your favourite guitar pedal or pedal chain. In terms of sound, it’s pretty good. The device is powered by a 9v battery , which tends to last months of play. The battery compartment can be accessed by removing the four screws on the back of the unit. I really like this headphone amp which I think is excellent value for money. My only criticisms would be that the belt clip feels less robust than The rest of the unit and I also find that having to unscrew the back of the unit to change the battery is less than ideal. I feel these are both minor criticisms however and id have no problem recommending it.

Not a lot of treble
I bought this for practicing on the bass and even for a bass sound there's too little treble, everything sounds terribly muffled. And no options to adjust the tone at all

Can make any guitar sound terrible!
Fuzzy sound quality. The bass sound is too heavy and treble sound is weak and dull.Definitely style over substance.

Sounds great; I just wish there was an on/off switch
Sounds great; I just wish there was an on/off switch. Power is controlled by plugging in headphones, so you need to be sure to unplug your headphones when done.

I just wish I'd known about this sooner.
Tldr: good product, works good, good price, you won't be sorry buying it.Before I knew about this little gem I was having to run my bass into my practice amp, then find a converter for 1/8" to 1/4" for my headphones so I could practice without disturbing anyone. This little dude does all of that in a smaller, more manageable package.Pros: compact, durable metal casing, clip on the back to have it at your belt, simple to use, and it sounds great coming through my headphones.UPDATE (4/7/2015): I have so far tested this headphone amp with distortion, overdrive, tremolo, and chorus pedals. All pedals used were lead guitar pedals, used with bass guitar.DISTORTION pedal: there is a high pitch squeal with the effect turned on. Not certain if that was a problem of that particular pedal (boss overdrive/distortion) because I heard the same squeal from a standard amp.OVERDRIVE pedal: minor buzzing/humming with effect on.TREMOLO pedal: no unwanted sound/effect (squealing, buzzing, humming, etc.) with pedal on.CHORUS pedal: same results as TREMOLO pedal.FUZZ pedal: To be determined.Con's: update: effects, while functioning, sound muted with volume at max.No change in star rating; amp fully functional as is.I'm just a casual bass player, so a lot of the mechanical lingo goes over my head, but I know a good sound when I hear it. Incidentally, hearing such a clean sound coming through caused me to actually learn what all of the knobs on my ibanez gio bass do. But yeah - clean sound, no distortion, which is good when you're just learning. (Like me.)Overall a great little amp.

E-H Headphone AMP. Cool and Versatile
First of all I am happy with it as a headphone amp. The sound and volume level are great for me. I play clean bass anyway so this is perfect. The only thing that I wish it had was a mini-toggle switch (as opposed to the headphone jack) to turn it on. Don't wear your headphones while turning it ON or OFF as the crackle is very loud.I also agree with another person on here (Noah) that this is also a very versatile amp. I also use it for boosting the signal coming from a PASSIVE bass guitar into the interface of the laptop. This is not a giant boost however it is just enough to give me higher input into the laptop that ultimately results in louder recordings in GarageBand. (This was both visually measured on the level meter of the laptop [sound settings] and also by the size of the recorded waveform amplitude in GarageBand.) Also it was a bit louder to the ear in GarageBand but the important thing is the larger recorded waveforms. So I would recommend this as a "no frills" simple headphone amplifier when you can't be at your regular amplifier AND as a passive "guitar booster" going in to your computer interface.Thank you,~Mark F.
